Mendoza, Argentina.


(Wine Story in Mendoza)

In 1853 there arrives to the country the Agronomist of French origin, Miguel Pouget. This arrival by request of the president of that time Sarmiento, achieved the introduction of new forms of crop, which in our country were not known: the vines of crop.

Hasta la llegada de Pouget, sólo se conocían las vides mas bien salvajes, es decir, nada de varietales. Ese fue el punto de partida, para obtener nuevos conocimientos y técnicas que permitieron sentar las bases de la vitivinicultura mendocina.

Up to the arrival of Pouget, only nothing knew the rather wild vines, that is to say, of varietales. This was the starting point, to obtain new knowledge and technologies that the bases of the vitivinicultura mendocina allowed to sit.

In turn, this culture turned out to be impelled by the arrival of the immigrants, who worked the ground by request of the proprietors of the fields, since they were located in merely rural areas, after the false promise with which they came to our country: that of being proprietors of his own grounds.

Another factor of big importance for the growth of this activity, was the arrival of the railroad, which propitiated the distribution of the production in the centers of consumption.

For that one of that time, our province, it was being transformed by efforts, to stop being a desert and start achieving an oasis that was allowing to sit populations of a stable way. One progressed then in technical piece of news of irrigation and water work.

In accordance with the capitalist model, the wine was not the exception of the big crises, and for it, facing 1930, it was taking place much more than it was consumed. This created an unusual picture, never seen, that derived in animals strolling for the streets intoxicated by the tipsy alcohol.

To regulate the problem of the productive excesses there is created in 1959 the INV (National Institute of Vitivinicultura), which has dependencies in the whole country, but his general administration and central head office, is in Mendoza.

Since then, Argentina has achieved big standards of world production, with wines recognized and rewarded in the whole world. Today the statisticians say that approximately of every 100 liters of wine that take place in the national territory, 70 are obtained in Mendoza, managing this way, that the province is the principal producer.

To today, our province offers big possibilities of establishment and knows about the production of a lot of varieties. And knowing the way of the wine, diversity of grapes, possibility of tasting big wines are someone of so many possibilities with which it is possible to find the visitor when he knows and enjoyment Mendoza.
