Invent metal cap that allows the wine to age

 19 Jun 2008 10:30:45 am

For several years now in the world of wine there is considerable debate among advocates of the corks and cork stoppers of metal thread. On each side, tradition and modernity will compete for the future of the closures of bottles of wine from around the world.

But a group of students at the University of California appears to have reached squaring the circle, that is designing a metal cap that has the same properties as the corks. This is a capsule (similar to the screw cap) under which he attached a metal disk that allows the necessary amount of oxygen required for aging the wine as it should. The size of the disk depends on the wine to be preserve, as each wine need different amounts of oxygen (a Cabernet Sauvignon needs more than a Pinot Noir, for example).

As reported Findawine, this device has the advantages of screw caps (easy to open and that there remains no taste for cork in the wine), plus the ability of the wine ages, something that until now could not achieve metal plugs. But still it is proved in the long run to confirm that is exactly the same properties as the cork. In the meantime, within the University already won the prize for the best "Big Bang business plan 2008" and a cheque of 15,000 dollars for further research.

 15 Jun 2008 02:49:10 am

While it may seem incredible, a bar in Queenstown, New Zealand, confused white wine with detergent and two people had to be interned in a hospital because of poisoning.

The event took place at Old Man Rock Cafe, where a customer requested a glass of white wine, but when I tested felt that he burned his mouth and throat. Seeing the reaction of the client, a moza the establishment also tried wine and suffered the same reaction, so that both were hospitalized under observation, as reported by the newspaper The New Zealand Herald.

Subsequent investigation succeeded in identifying the detergent had been dumped into the container containing the bulk wine. The confusion occurred because the company that provides cleaning products to the bar had 50 of these recycled containers of wine to distribute the detergent and lower costs, and employees of the establishment failed to notice the difference before serving in a glass
